Dr. Pilz brings more than 10 years of experience in the field of immunology, and expertise in bacterial and viral vaccine development. For several years, he was a group leader at Baxter Bioscience, where he and his team developed various functional immune assays, and participated in pre-clinical and clinical studies of novel borrelia and influenza vaccines. Additionally, he was a member of high level committees to optimize production processes and responsible for multiple, fruitful collaborations with both industry and academia partners.
Before his career in the industry, A. Pilz studied microbiology at the University of Vienna and focused on the effects of type I interferons in innate and adaptive immune responses upon vaccination. During his time as a PhD student and postdoc, he also investigated the effects of novel adjuvants and aging on the effectiveness of immunizations.
